About Miwa: Miwa Oseki Robbins is an artist and a builder who enjoys playing with the creative processes of manifesting dreams and what it means to step more fully into our power as creators of our own lives. For the last seven years she has been using the process of building as a way to empower people to take an idea and turn it into a reality. Her background includes building primitive shelters as an outdoor education instructor, working as a natural builder on strawbale, cob, and timber frame structures, and most recently working for Hammerstone, a women owned contract company and school based out of Trumansburg, NY focused on bringing more women into the trades. Her journey into the building world was inspired by a personal dream to build her own house, a dream that led her to build a tiny house on wheels, which she now lives in full time in Ithaca, NY.

Tiny House Tour: In addition to building a shed over the course of the weekend, you'll get a tour of Murphy's simple off-grid Tiny House (which doubles as the Mountainsong Expeditions headquarters!). Murphy designed and built this Tiny House herself, using many reclaimed components and spending a total of about $5,000 on the structure. You can see pictures of it below.
- What: In this weekend class, Miwa will teach us all the basics of small construction. Whether you want to build a Tiny House, create a garden shed, or construct a sauna, this class will teach you the basics of stick framing with 2x4s. Miwa will cover all the basics that are the foundation of good carpentry, including measuring, marking, and tool safety. Our practice project will be building a 8x12 storage shed, a similar and shape as many Tiny Houses. Miwa will also share her expertise about considerations that are important for Tiny Houses and many other small structures, including small space design techniques, the advantages and disadvantages of building on a trailer, and the tricks of navigating permitting and building codes. You will leave this class informed, confident, empowered, and inspired to begin your own building project!
