IN PERSON

STREET MEDIC TRAINING

Learn first aid skills that address civil protest, police violence, and natural disasters.

This training is rooted in radical consent, anti-oppression values, and grassroots activist culture.

Understand how to deal with tear gas, pepper spray, tasers, rubber bullets, police intimidation, and more.

Train With Your Community

These skills for care and first aid are best learned within our existing movements.

Murphy can travel to your community and teach a training for your affinity group, organization, or budding medic collective.

THE DETAILS

  • A comprehensive 20-hour class
  • Learn effective first aid skills through hands-on practice and role-play scenarios
  • Practice helping people make empowered decisions about their care using radical consent
  • The class is designed for adults, but teens with good focus may attend if accompanied by a parent or guardian
  • This course prepares you to support our movements for liberation.  Be ready when we take to the streets!

Where is it?

Generally, Murphy travels to your community to offer a training to your group:  you organize a training space and handle registration, Murphy just comes to teach.

Occasionally we host open-enrollment Street Medic classes that everyone can sign up for, since it can be hard to find a group training in rural New England.  But this work is most effectively done in collectives that can support each other in intense situations, so we recommend you join a Street Medic group after the training.

When is it?

Book a weekend with Murphy.

How much is it?

  • Murphy charges a $600 teaching fee plus travel expenses (mileage or airfare).  They also ask that you provide a place for them to stay (or camp) and a few meals during the weekend (often groups have potluck meals during the training).
  • You are welcome to recruit up to 20 people to the training and either split the course expenses between them or fundraise to cover the costs.
  • Income-sensitive fee scales & free spots for BIPOC medics are highly recommended!
  • Many Street Medic Collectives offer this training for free to new medics they have vetted to join their group.  This is an excellent way to get trained.  Murphy's classes are intended to address the need for training in areas without an existing collective, especially in rural areas.

Our Covid Policy

  • Your group can discuss this with Murphy and we can choose a policy based on the nature of the venue and current covid rates in your community.
  • This training requires close contact with a practice partner.  In pandemic surges, this risk factor can be addressed by masking, choosing one practice partner for the whole training, and holding the training outside.
CONTACT MURPHY

“I am so impressed with how good the practice scenarios were! So often I find these cheesy and not so helpful (in CPR classes, etc), and I felt like the structure of them in this class was really conducive to critical thinking and real learning.

I so appreciated the sensitivity to building radical queer anti-oppressive space—it was a big part of what drew me to this program.

“An amazing queer space! Murphy did a great job teaching vs. answering questions, and calling on the knowledge in the space. I loved this class and am very grateful for Murphy sharing their knowledge.
